Tate, Shane lead after first day of hydro racing in Tri-Cities

Andrew Tate driving his Delta/RealTrac hydro and Jimmy Shane in the Miss HomeStreet are leading the field after the first day of racing in Kennewick. Edmonds-based Reliable Diamond Tool presents J&D’s Driver Tom Thompson has been consistent in finishing just behind the two front runners is Saturday’s preliminary heats, although he did not compete in the second set

Next came Brian Perkins with consistent running in the Payne West Insurance followed by Cal Phipps in the Oberto boat. The other boat with an Edmonds connection, Dustin Echols in Kelly Stocklin’s Bucket List Racing, was next, followed by J. Michael Kelly is last year’s winner, the Graham Trucking, Aaron Salmon in the Miss Rock and Jimmy King in the Grigg’s Hardware. All of the last three boats were unable to finish in the first round of preliminary heats.

Shane and Tate each won their first heat of the day. They faced each other in the day’s last heat, during which Shane led from start to finish. Third went to Perkins, and our local boat did not finish.

Grigg’s and Miss Rock did not run in the second set of heats and the Graham Trucking got second in the second heat.

Sunday features two more sets of preliminary heats followed by the winner-take-all final.
