Edmonds police trainings set for Oct. 25 at former Woodway Elementary, Westgate Chapel

If you see a large police presence or hear other commotion in the area of former Woodway Elementary School or Westgate Chapel Thursday, Oct. 25 in the afternoon or evening, don’t be alarmed. Two police training exercises are scheduled for those locations in the afternoon and evening hours.

North Sound Metro SWAT will be conducting an active shooter training at the old Woodway Elementary, 9500 240th St. S.W., using the buildings and field. This will include simulated gunfire and loud banging noises from 2-10 p.m.

Then, from 5-9 p.m. at Westgate Chapel, 22901 Edmonds Way, the police ALERT (Riot) Team will be practicing in the parking lot. “There will be an angry mob of actors yelling and screaming,” Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Shane Hawley said. “You may hear crashing and banging noises. It’s not a real riot, just training.”
