Prep football roundup: Warriors edge T-Birds for homecoming win; Scots stifle Mavs

Publisher’s note: Photos of Edmonds-Woodway homecoming game and the homecoming court will be posted later on Saturday.

The underdogs had their day on Friday as the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors earned a homecoming victory by handing Shorewood just its second loss of the season, while the favored Meadowdale Mavericks lost to Shorecrest in Wesco League football action.

After trailing 17-7 at halftime, the Warriors held Shorewood scoreless in the second half while getting touchdowns of their own — one in the third quarter and one in the fourth — for a 20-17 come-from-behind victory.

The win was just the second of the year for E-W; the Warriors will try to continue their successful play next week when they face the Everett Seagulls at Memorial Stadium in Everett.

In Shoreline, Meadowdale gave up 52 points to a Shorecrest team that had been averaging 23.3 points per game before Friday and fell to the Scots 52-24. Five different Scots got into the end zone against the Mavs defense.

Meadowdale will have to get over the big loss quickly as they will next be challenged by the 2018 3A Wesco League South Conference champion Snohomish Panthers on Friday, Oct. 19, at Edmonds Stadium.
