In a spooky lead-up to Wednesday’s gala Halloween celebrations, the Richmond Beach and Edmonds Running Club hit the downtown streets in full costume at dusk Tuesday evening to put in four miles (give or take a little) of not-so-serious pavement pounding while checking out the Scarecrow Festival entries and the plethora of Halloween displays in storefronts and homes.
The runners assembled in full Halloween regalia at the Salish Sea Brewing Company at the appointed start time of 6:03 p.m. sharp. Screaming like a flock of banshees, they disappeared into the growing darkness to complete their course down to the waterfront, along Sunset Avenue and back.
Nothing works up a thirst like running four miles in costume, and they’d no sooner returned than pints of amber appeared on the tables, the volume of laughter and the glow of camaraderie rose to the rafters, and all settled in to toast one another and plan their next run — the Turkey Trot!
The Richmond Beach and Edmonds running club welcomes runners of all ages and abilities, from beginners to marathoners. The club sponsors three weekly runs: Tuesday evening, 6:03 p.m. starting at Salish Sea Brewing Company, Edmonds; Saturday morning, 8 a.m. starting at Caffe Ladro’s Five Corners location and Sunday morning, 8 a.m. starting at Café Louvre, Edmonds.
All are welcome, with no reservations necessary.
