Good trees for urban gardens: Ideas for winter beauty

This beautiful fall is coming to an end. Rain and wind are causing the colorful leaves to fall. We look out and see the colorful Japanese maples and smoke trees knowing that soon they will be gone. The yellow leaves of the weeping willow stubbornly hold on to the branches.

But winter also has a special subdued beauty, including the many evergreens, the strawberry tree, mountain hemlock and false cypress. Even the branches of Japanese and vine maple have a subtle attractiveness.
This is a good time to look at the garden and see where an evergreen can add winter beauty.
