Prep basketball: Comeback win for Warrior boys vs. Juanita; girls lose to Lynden Christian

It took the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors boys basketball team a while to get up to speed in their 2018-2019 season opener on Friday, but when they did there was no catching them.

The Warriors, down by 11 points at halftime, outran the Juanita Rebels in the second half and defeated the visitors 58-44 at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Mutdung Bol scored 22 points to lead E-W in the victory; Chinedu Acholonu added 14 points while Nuer Bol contributed 10 points to the Warriors’ win.

Ryan Trautmann and Nathan Robertson each scored 13 points for the Rebels in a losing cause.

The Warriors have three straight road contests up next on their schedule, the first at Woodinville on Thursday, Dec. 6. Tipoff against the Falcons is set for 7:15 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Edmonds-Woodway Lady Warriors made the long trip to Lynden on Friday to face the defending 1A state champion Lynden Christian Lync; by the end of the night E-W had discovered why the Lady Lyncs will likely be a contender for another state title this year.

The Lady Warriors fell to Lynden Christian 65-53 in a non-conference clash played at Lynden Christian High School.

The E-W girls will have a week off before their next game on Friday, Dec. 7, when they hit the road again, this time to face the Lake Stevens Vikings; tipoff is slated for 7:15 p.m.
