Prep girls soccer: Warriors play Wednesday in state tourney first round

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors are back in the WIAA 3A State Girls Soccer Tournament for the sixth time in eight years and are hoping to duplicate some of the magic they have had during their recent stretch of state tourney play.

The Warriors (16-3-0) open this year’s tournament action on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with a Round of 16 match against the Lakeside Lions (12-4-4). First kick at the SW Athletic Complex, 8402-30th Ave. S.W. in Seattle, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

All matches in the first two rounds of the state tourney are loser-out affairs; the winner of the Warriors-Lions first round match will face the winner of the West Seattle-Gig Harbor tilt on Friday or Saturday.

E-W won the 3A state girls soccer tournament in 2014, the only girls’ state champions the school has crowned (the Warriors’ boys cross country won a state championship in 1990 and boys tennis won a state doubles title in 2008). The Lady Warriors followed up their championship season with a third-place finish in the state tourney the following year.
