The Lynnwood Royals are one match away from claiming a berth to the WIAA 3A State Volleyball Tournament while the Meadowdale Mavericks have now seen their 2018 season come to an end.
The differing paths for the Royals and the Mavs are the result of a Lynnwood 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-12) victory over Meadowdale in a District 1 3A Volleyball Tournament loser-out match played Thursday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
Lynnwood snuck by the Mavs 26-24 in the first set, then cruised to the win, due in part to a strong defensive performance. Four Royals tallied double-figure digs in the sweep: Kiana Pel with 34, Riley Monan with 16, Linh Nguyen with 13 and Ashley Anderson with 10.
The Royals, the No. 8 seed in the district tourney, will face the No. 2-seeded Stanwood Spartans on Saturday, Nov. 10, with a trip to state on the line. The winner-to-state loser-out match will take place at 11 a.m. back at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
For the district tourney’s No. 5 seed Mavs, their season ends with an overall mark of 9-8.
