Prep boys basketball: Beavers come back to edge Warriors in MLT Holiday Tourney

Leading by six points going into the final quarter, the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors looked poised to pick up a victory in their first game of the MLT Holiday Tourney on Friday.

But the Ballard Beavers had other plans.

The Beavers outscored the Warriors 15-7 in the fourth quarter to steal a 56-54 win from E-W Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School.

The Warriors’ Tai Strachman attempted a tough turnaround jumper over Ballard’s Roan Gerrald that would have tied the game at the final buzzer, but the shot bounced off the rim and the Beavers walked away with the triumph.

Chinedu Acholonu scored 21 points for E-W in the loss; Ballard was led in scoring by the 14 points of junior Tycho Stiegel.

The Warriors will play their final game of the two-day tourney in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday, Dec. 29, when they face the Sunnyside Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m.
