Prep boys basketball: Spartans beat Warriors 70-60

Unable to recover from a slow start, the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors fell to the Stanwood Spartans 70-60 in a Wesco League contest played Wednesday at Stanwood High School.

The Warriors were outscored by the Spartans 16-8 in the first quarter on Wednesday; E-W has trailed at the end of the first eight minutes in each of their four games so far this season.

E-W’s Mutdung Bol scored a game-high 27 points in the loss; Chinedu Acholonu and Nikko McNeal each tallied 12 points in the game.

Cort Roberson scored 22 points to lead the Spartans. Jake Cleary added 15 points while Mitch Jones had 12 points.

The Warriors will host the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks on Friday, Dec. 14, at Edmonds-Woodway High School. The Tomahawks are a favorite to capture the 2A/3A Wesco League title this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
