Prep boys wrestling: Warriors win Atown Throwdown; Mavs take fourth

Led by two champions and 13 medal winners, Edmonds-Woodway easily won the Atown Throwdown Wrestling Tournament held at Arlington High School Dec. 8 with 246 points.  Host Arlington was second with 190.5, and Meadowdale finished fourth with 166.5.

Freshman Ethan Nguyen advanced to the finals at 113 by defeating teammate Baylor Denkinger 1-0 in the semifinals.  In the finals, Nguyen defeated Jaiden Bundy from Squalicum 15-7.

At 132, senior Grayson LeCompte pinned every opponent to advance to the championship match against Jin Lee from Meadowdale. In that match, LeCompte finished the day with another pin to win the championship.

Other Warriors placing were Reece LeCompte 2nd– 106; Baylor Denkinger 3rd– 113; Emmanuel Boayke-Ansah 3rd-120; Ousman Fatty 3rd-132; Alex Rapelje 3rd-138; Thomas Christin-Eriksen 3rd-152; Marcus Dilworth 3rd-182; Christian Simpson 3rd-182; Josh Brown 3rd-195; Luke Walker 3rd-195 and George Kartano 3rd-220.

Meadowdale placed six wrestlers in the finals but were denied a championship. Placing second in the finals for Meadowdale were Erick Gonzalez 120, Nathan Lee 126, Jin Lee 132, Tanner Queree 145, Thaddius Gonzalez-Serna 152 and Alex Krueger 285.

Other placers for the Mavericks were Chaucey Gantt 3rd-220; Alex Maxwell 3rd-285 and Tyler Paul 3rd-285.
