Edmonds-Woodway High School wrestler Vatoria Keyes took second place in the 38-team Pride of the Lady Lions Wrestling Tournament in Lynden on Dec. 15.
Keyes pinned her first two opponents before defeating Estephania Vargas from Othello 2-0 in the semifinals. In her final match, Keyes faced top-seeded Chanel Sivafrom Stanwood. Siva placed 5th at Mat Classic and came in with a 15-1 record. Siva won the championship by a 5-3 decision in a hard-fought battle. This was only the second loss of the season for Keyes.
The Warriors finished 16th overall in the tournament won by Othello. E-W girls wrestle Dec. 19 at Stanwood.
The Edmonds-Woodway boys wrestling team traveled to California for the El Cajon Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Four Warriors came home with medals from the 60-team event that featured some of the top high schools on the West Coast. Placing for the Warriors were:

126: Grayson LeCompte 7th
132: Alex Rapelje 7th
138: Christian Simpson 8th
The Warriors wrestle at home against Everett on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
