It was a historic night under the lights in the Warrior Wrestling Pit when the Edmonds- Woodway girls wrestled the first ever all-girls dual meet in school history against a combined team from Kamiak and Mariner. The Warriors were not able to overcome the 18 points given up by forfeits and Kamiak/Mariner won the meet 45-30.

Edmonds-Woodway trailed 39-6 before senior Charlotte Torio pinned her opponent. It was a bittersweet victory for Torio, who had waited four years for this match. “Things have changed in four years, growing from being the only girl to a program with a home dual,” Torio said. “Tonight makes me really happy,” she added.

Also getting pins for the Warriors were juniors Destinee Harris and Kendell Summers.  Harris, a first-year wrestler, said the meet was a great experience with a supportive home crowd. She also added that she was ready for the postseason.  “I have learned a lot this year and gained a lot of confidence.” Harris said. “I am very proud of all the other girls.”.

Summers, also a junior, has wrestled since middle school and is one of the few wrestlers with more than a year of experience. “This has been a challenging season for me because I am wrestling girls a lot bigger than me. I have had to learn to overcome that,” Summers said. “Tonight was crazy seeing all the support from our fans.”

Wednesday was also Senior Night for the three seniors on the squad:
