Prep wrestling: E-W boys take Lumberjack Classic title; Keyes wins in Everett Lady Classic

The EWHS boys wrestling team after winning the Lumberjack Classic Saturday.

Edmonds-Woodway High School’s boys wrestling team had seven finalists and four champions on the way to winning the team title at the Lumberjack Classic held at R.A. Long High School in Longview Saturday, Jan. 19.

Trailing Mountainview going in to the finals, the Warriors needed a good showing and they came through with 13 medals to win the title, scoring 174.4 to Mountainview’s 164.

Winning championships for the Warriors were Ethan Nguyen – 106, Alex Rapelje – 126, Grayson LeCompte – 132, and Howie Hare – 138.

Other Warriors placing were: 106, 2nd Place – Reece LeCompte; 113, 2nd Place – Baylor Denkinger and 3rd Place – Emmanuel Boakye-Ansah; 120, 3rd Place – Elias Meyer, 132 and 3rd Place – Russel Hare; 138, 2nd Place – George Quintans; 145, 3rd Place – Alec Rust; 195, 3rd Place – Josh Brown and 220, 4th Place – George Kartano.

Edmonds-Woodway boys wrestling next match: versus Shorewood and Shorecrest; Tuesday, Jan. 22; 5:45 p.m. at Shorecrest High School

In other E-W wrestling results from Saturday, the Lady Warriors placed 15th at the Everett Lady Classic staged at Everett High School. Vatoria Keyes won the 235 lb weight class for Edmonds-Woodway.
