Alone on Valentine’s Day? Daphne’s Bar in downtown Edmonds may be just the place for you.

This is the 12th year that owner Brian Taylor has hosted a “No Couples Allowed” Valentine’s Day. According to Taylor, it all started when he was working the bar the first year that Daphne’s was open, and he received word that his father had died.

“I decided then and there that my mom should have somewhere to enjoy Valentine’s Day as a widow without being surrounded by a bunch of lovebirds,” Taylor explained.

Over the years, Taylor said, the general complaint he has received about his “no couples” rule is there are “not enough men.”

“So I have been considering being the first bar in history to offer a “Men’s Drink Special,” he quipped.

Daphne’s is open from 4 p.m.-midnight on Valentine’s Day.
