After five years of operation, WhimSea Boutique in closing its doors, effective the end of February.
Owner Katie Jones opened the downtown Edmonds store on April 1, 2014 after working at the former Kate Lise Boutique, in the same location, for two years. A 2006 graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School, she purchased the business from the Kate Alise owners and renamed it WhimSea, a play on the word whimsy.
The store, located at 405 Main St., specialized in jewelry, accessories, and fashion apparel.
Jones announced the closure in a letter to WhimSea customers.
“I learned so much about owning a business, and it was exciting to discover what worked best for my customers,” Jones wrote. “I have always enjoyed meeting new people and lending a helping hand, so I was thrilled to be in a position to do this every day.”
Merchandise will be heavily discounted through the end of the month, and customers — including those with a gift certificate or store credit — are encouraged to “come on in to stock up on gifts, clothing and accessories,” Jones said.
“I have been asked what the next step is for me,” Jones wrote. “I don’t honestly know the answer to that just yet, but I do know that I’m excited to face the next adventure.
“I am forever grateful to my family and friends who have supported me along the way. Most of all, I am so grateful and lucky to have had my store in a town as wonderful as Edmonds. The customers, the other merchants, all of you have made this journey a treasured experience. I seriously can’t thank you all enough.”
I’m sorry to hear this. I always found interesting and fun things in WhimSea. Best of luck with the next adventure!
