Reader Dave Govan took these photos on the nearly-full moon on Sunday, and reminds us that the largest Supermoon of 2019 is happening Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Govan said the halo around the moon is caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere refracting the moonlight, similar to how water droplets create a rainbow.
