As heavy snow fell Monday, turning to mixed snow and rain by Monday night, some Edmonds residents lost power and Edmonds City Hall shut down mid-afternoon for all non-essential services.

The Edmonds School District announced there would be no school and Edmonds Community College canceled classes Tuesday, and the City of Edmonds said that Frances Anderson Center classes and activities would be canceled Tuesday morning.

“We will post an update on afternoon and evening classes mid-day,” the city said on its Facebook page.

The city said it planned to re-open City Hall Tuesday at 10 a.m., weather permitting. There is an Edmonds City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, unless it  is canceled. (Last week’s meeting was canceled due to snow and ice.) You can see the Tuesday meeting agenda here.

Snohomish County PUD spokesman Aaron Swaney said the cause of two large outages in the Edmonds — affecting several hundred customers — is still under investigation.

“Know that we have multiple crews in that area tonight working on restoration efforts,” Swaney said. “The crews are really battling out there.”

  1. Many thanks to the City, the School District and the PUD got their tireless work to keep the City of Edmonds up and working.
