Public hearing on plastic utensils, straw ban plus homelessness report at Feb. 26 council meeting

A report on an Edmonds City Council-funded study on homelessness and a public hearing on a plan to ban single-use plastic straws and utensils in the city by 2020 are among the items on the Tuesday, Feb. 26 council business meeting agenda.

The public hearing comes after a council resolution passed in May 2018 to create an ordinance banning single-use plastic dining utensils and straws. The effective date of the proposed ordinance would align with the effective date of council-approved ordinance in January 2019 that bans non-compostable food packaging items in Edmonds.

Also on the Tuesday night agenda are the 2018 Public Defender’s Office annual report and an update from Community Transit.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Public Safety Complex, 250 5th Ave. N., Edmonds. You can see the complete agenda here.

  1. I think if your really going to get serious on a ban shouldn’t it be water in a plastic bottle ban, straws are a joke. Take a look on what is floating in every water mass. I don’t see straws or utensils, I see plastic water bottles. Anyone here do any research on what is the biggest pollution of plastic?? I might add we used to use glass bottles and totally reusable.
