For the second year, Rick Steves Europe tour guides are sending one of their favorite Edmonds bartenders to Europe.

The tour guides were in Edmonds last week for the annual Tour Guide Summit — a week-long series of workshops and meetings that prepare the guides for a busy season of European tours.

They raised $1,000 to fund a trip to Slovenia for Rory’s Tavern bartender Kelli Glover, who has worked at Rory’s for 18 years.

The initiative was spearheaded by Irish guide Stephen McPhilemy, who has been coming to Rick’s annual Guide Summit in Edmonds for 20 years.

“Edmonds has always been hospitable, and it’s important for us guides to give back to this town,” McPhilemy said.

Last year, the guides pooled their resources to bring Salt & Iron’s Jin Link to Ireland.

“The locals have always welcomed us,” McPhilemy said. “Some Edmonds bartenders have become our dear friends — and it’s nice to bring our American friends to Europe to have fun with us and learn about our lives on the other side of the big wide Atlantic.”
