Updated at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday with additional information from Everett police.
Two men were in custody Tuesday afternoon — including a murder suspect from Yakima — after a pursuit from Everett ended in the Edmonds’ WinCo Foods parking lot at 220th Street Southwest and Highway 99.
The pursuit resulted in several collisions along the way, Everett police said. Multiple agencies assisted, including police from Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.
According to Everett police, the incident began at about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday when Everett officers located a murder suspect in a vehicle at 7th Avenue Southeast and Everett Mall Way. The vehicle fled as officers attempted to stop it.
Police said they pursued the vehicle because they believed the suspect had a weapon. While fleeing, the vehicle struck multiple parked cars before heading southbound on I-5 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle exited the freeway at the 220th Street Southwest exit and stopped in the WinCo Foods parking lot.
The suspect and driver ran from the car but were quickly located by officers, police said.
The 24-year-old male suspect will be transported to Yakima for his murder warrant. The vehicle’s driver, a 39-year-old man, will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail on eluding and hit-and-run charges.
Police said there were no civilian injuries reported. One Everett officer was transported to a local hospital as a precaution after being involved in a collision.
At this time, the number of damaged vehicles is unknown as traffic officers continue investigating.
The involved vehicle, an Acura, was impounded as evidence pending further investigation, police said.
