Edmonds Floretum Garden Club will presents its final speaker for the season on Monday, April 15. Horticulturist Marina Bambans from Swanson’s Nursery will talk about water-wise plants that can tolerate our Mediterranean climate of dry summers and wet winters.
The meeting begins at 10 a.m. with coffee and socializing, and the program starts at 11 a.m. in the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall, 121 5th Ave. N.
After traveling to the cold deserts of northern Nevada with the Burke Museum Herbarium to collect plants for their database, Bambans noticed that many of the plants there have close relatives that are cold-hardy in the Pacific Northwest and can tolerate more precipitation. This inspired her research here in Seattle, with acknowledgement that our climate is changing and natural resources are limited. It is more critical now than ever to make sustainable plant selection choices for our landscapes.
Guests are always welcome at Floretum meetings. See more about the club and the May 4th Plant Sale at www.edmondsfloretumgardenclub.org.
