Letter to the editor: Thanks to the Alderwood-Terrace Rotary for Honor Guard support

The following letter from Edmonds Police Chief Al Compaan was sent to Kevin McCandlish, president of Alderwood-Terrace Rotary, on May 7. We are republishing it with permission.

Dear Mr. McCandlish:

On behalf of the Edmonds Police Department as a member agency of the South Snohomish County Honor Guard (SSCHG), we thank the Rotary Club of Alderwood-Terrace for the generous financial support bestowed upon us at last Friday evening’s dinner auction. To receive a check in the sum of $5,000 earmarked for the Honor Guard was not only very much appreciated, but humbling at the same time.

Our SSCHG exists only through the commitment of its members and the donation of financial resources for purchase of equipment and uniforms. The Honor Guard represents its member law enforcement agencies and residents of cities we serve, doing so at a variety of ceremonial and special events, including funerals and memorials, all with the highest honor, respect, and integrity.

We appreciate the opportunity to have provided Presentation of Colors to officially start the Rotary dinner auction. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of the donation. Most of all, we appreciate the support for the men and women of law enforcement who work tirelessly 24/7, bettering the safety and security of our communities. Thank you!!

Sincerely,

Edmonds Police Department
Al Compaan
Chief of Police
