The Meadowdale Mavericks needed overtime and penalty kicks, but the District 1 Boys Soccer Tournament no.2 seed got the outcome they desired on Saturday.
The Mavs slipped past the No. 7-seeded Snohomish Panthers in a penalty kick shootout to advance to the semifinal round of the district tourney.
Meadowdale and Snohomish were knotted up at 1-1 after 80 minutes of regulation play and another 10 minutes of overtime before the Mavs prevailed in the PK shootout.
The Mavs will next face the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors on Tuesday, May 7, with the winner of that match earning a spot in the WIAA state tournament later this month. The Mavs-Warriors game will take place at 6 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium.
