Reminder: Edmonds Senior Center offering advanced care planning class June 19

The Edmonds Senior Center is offering a free advanced directive class — “Your Life, Your Wishes’ — that also includes information regarding options for burial, Wednesday, June 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Edmonds Library conference room.

While most Americans say they would prefer to live through the end of their lives at home, surrounded by friends and family, the reality is the exact opposite. Studies show that when people age 65 and older plan in advance with their doctors they are much more satisfied about their preferences for care through the end of their lives.

Learn how your values and beliefs can guide your personal choices regarding medical care, how to select the best person to speak for you in the event that you are unable to speak for yourself, what life sustaining treatments may be offered to you at the end of life and the pros and cons of each treatment and what forms you need to fill out and share with your doctor to document the choices. In addition, the class will discuss what options individuals have regarding burial in Washington state.

The workshop has limited space. If you are interested in attending please call the Edmonds Senior Center at 425-774-5555 to register.
