Edmonds-Woodway High School senior Presley Denkinger, on the Edmonds High School Composite Team, finished her high school mountain bike racing career on top by winning the final race in the Washington Student Cycling League’s (WSCL) 2019 season June 2. The victory, at Squilchuck State Park in Wenatchee, gave Denkinger the Washington State Championship in the very competitive varsity girls division.
Denkinger, who has participated in the WSCL on the Edmonds teams since 8th grade, made her winning move on the last climb of the third and final lap of the 15-mile race to finish 1 minute and 14 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
The win also secured 3rd place overall for Denkinger, who participated in three of the four races in the 2019 series.
Presley will be attending the University of Portland this fall.
The WSCL Spring League program offers cross-country mountain biking for students grades 6 through 12 consisting of 50-plus co-ed middle school and high school teams. More information can be found at www.washingtonleague.org.
