Scene In Edmonds: Yost Park Pileated Woodpeckers

Carol Riddell took these photos of Pileated Woodpeckers Thursday afternoon in Yost Park. The female has two young in the nest cavity. She has been busy collecting and bringing food to the young birds, who are spending a lot of time watching their new world from the safety of the nest.

  1. Absolutely Amazing!!!!
Great capture and timing and patience, I would like a 6×4 of each to display on the wall.

  2. When do they normally all vacate their tree nesting cavity. Their nest this year is in a 60 foot (+-) aging poplar near my barn. Other of my similar trees have been broken by wind and toppled at the large hollowed nesting area. So the tree needs to be cut down ASAP after they leave.
