It’s time to make plans for participating in Edmonds Kind of Fourth of July activities.
The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce invites the public to march in either of two parades — the children’s parade or Main Parade, as well as enter either of the 5K or 1K races taking place the morning of July 4. In addition, volunteers are needed to help manage operations for all events taking place throughout the day.
“An Edmonds Kind of 4th” is a delightful tradition for families, civic organizations and members of the business community,” said Greg Urban, president and CEO of the Edmonds Chamber. Urban said he expects more than 18,000 spectators to attend some or all of the day’s activities.
Those who march in the parade or take part in either the “Beat Brackett 5K run” or “Baby Brackett 1K walk/run” must register through the Edmonds Chamber. Citizens interested in serving as event volunteers should also contact the chamber.
The run/walk events begin at 9 a.m. at Edmonds City Park, with the finish line for both at 4th Avenue and Main Street.
A children’s parade will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Main Parade through downtown Edmonds starting at noon. The Main Parade traditionally features a colorful mix of marchers, patriotic costumes, floats, classic cars, musical bands, dance groups and civic organizations as well as police, fire and military groups. A few Star Wars characters also are expected to take part.
Starting at 6 p.m., local food trucks will be offering a wide choice of foods and refreshments adjacent to the Edmonds Boys & Girls Club at Civic Field. Musical entertainment will be on hand before the fireworks show in the park at 10 p.m..

The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce – without government or tax funding – produces the entire 4th of July celebration for the city. Generous support comes from the Hazel Miller Foundation and the Hubbard Family Foundation as well as the Edmonds business community, Chamber fund-raising events throughout the year such as Taste Edmonds and the Clam Chowder Cook-Off, and individual donations to the Edmonds Chamber Foundation.
Now this great parade really does create “An Edmonds Kind of Day” every year. I’ve even heard it said it beats Everett. and theirs is usually good.
