Former EWHS player Mady Burdett to represent D-3 basketball on Brazil Tour

Incoming Whitman College senior Mady Burdett, a 2016 Edmonds-Woodway High School graduate, is among 10 players selected nationally to represent USA D-3 Women’s Basketball in the Brazil Tour 2019.

The teams are made up of invited NCAA Division III basketball players from throughout the U.S. Team members have been recognized at the national, regional and conference levels.

During her 2018-19 season, Burdett started and played in all 27 games for Whitman, where she was fifth in points per game (15.8) during conference play and was fourth in the nation (48.5%) in three-point shots. Burdett scored 80 total three pointers for the season, putting her in the top 20 nationally. She also ranked third during NWC play in assists to turnover ratio (2.6). In addition, Burdett was selected for First Team All-Northwest Conference honors and was named to the All-Region Third Team.

“This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from 13 different state and 16 different colleges and universities from across the United States, said Ron Smith, director of USA Sports Tours & Events. “We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing almost every region in the country. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer. ”

The USA D-3 Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2019 in Orlando, Fla. on Monday, July 8 and after a team orientation will depart for Sao Paulo, Brazil. The tour, which includes several games against local teams, will conclude July 17.

While in Brazil, the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
