From the Publisher’s Desk: After 10 years, still proud to be covering Edmonds

It’s been 10 years since I purchased the web domain and launched my vision for online news in Edmonds.

To describe the last decade as a wild, unpredictable, sometimes frustrating, but always rewarding ride is an understatement.

I am so proud of what we, as a community, have created. And it truly is a community — of readers, advertisers, commenters, writers, photographers and other key support people who keep things humming.

Since launching the site in early October 2009, our site traffic continues to grow year over year and our advertising revenue has steadily increased. Most important, we are seeing small but steady growth in the number of readers who are supporting us financially — monthly or annually.

This year, in particular, was a highlight for me, as I was selected as the 2019 Edmonds Citizen of the Year. For me, that’s important because it validates the role of public service journalism in helping people to stay informed about — and participate in — their community.

As a followup to that recognition, I was profiled as a News Maker in the quarterly magazine of my alma mater, Seattle University. You can read that article here.

So what’s the encore, after 10 years? I am planning for many more. I have never enjoyed a job more than this one, and I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do.

I’ll close with one final plug. Many of you reading this have likely supported us financially but if you have not, please consider doing so at this link. It truly matters, and it will make a difference.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve Edmonds.

With gratitude,

Teresa Wippel, Publisher
