Warriors sports roundup: Volleyball loses to Snohomish, boys tennis falls to Kamiak

The Snohomish Panthers have brought home trophies from each of the past two WIAA 3A State Volleyball Tournaments. Given their performance over the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors on Thursday, a third straight trophy finish at state may be in the works for the Panthers.

Snohomish swept the Warriors 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-17) at Snohomish High School in the Wesco League opener for both teams.

The Panthers jumped out to a 21-4 first set lead and never looked back in the contest.

The Warriors will step away from Wesco League competition when they play in the ASC High School Cup Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Academy Sports Center in Lynnwood. Tourney play begins at 8 a.m. and continues throughout the day.

In other E-W sports on Thursday, the Warriors’ boys tennis team suffered its first team loss since Oct. 9, 2017, as the Kamiak Knights defeated E-W 5-2 at former Woodway High School.

The Warriors’ girls soccer match against Snohomish that had been scheduled for Edmonds Stadium was postponed after lightning appeared in the area. The first lightning strikes came just before pre-game ceremonies were to take place at 7:30 p.m. After a 30-minute delay, the teams were preparing for kickoff when another strike happened in the vicinity. The game was subsequently called and will be rescheduled for another date.
