I first met Diana White when I walked into my son Matthew’s third grade Sunday School Class at Holy Rosary. I had volunteered to assist the teacher who happened to be Diana. She walked in with her baby under her arm and several of her children. I was in awe of how well she managed to keep a full classroom of children engaged and how well they all behaved. Little did I know at that time that years later, my son Matthew at age 16 would have a sudden cardiac arrest while running the track at Meadowdale High School.
At the time of Matthew’s passing, Diana was the president of the Edmonds School Board, where she has served for the past eight years. She immediately did what she could to get the word out to educate parents about Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I discovered it is not enough to have AEDs on the wall. We needed the schools to have an Emergency Action Plan to educate students, parents and staff on CPR and how to use an AED. We needed more AEDs in our schools and it took two-and-a-half years of fundraising to complete the Heart of Edmonds School District & Community Heart Safe Project. I will forever be grateful to the Nick of Time Foundation, our community, Hazel Miller Foundation, and Diana White for their support and generosity in helping keep our community heart safe in our schools.
Diana is everything her slogan claims, Present, Prepared, and Professional. I will be voting for Diana White for Edmonds City Council Position 6 because she will serve with a creative, collaborative, thoughtful, and fiscally responsible approach to the issues facing our community. Please vote for Diana White for Edmonds City Council.
