Letter to the editor: Why I’m supporting Diana White for city council

I am writing in support of Diana White, candidate for Edmonds City Council, position 6. There have been many letters in the past several weeks concerning our current political climate. My best takeaway from all of this is that my support of any candidate should be based on my own knowledge and experience gained from working with that person; I can truly say this applies with respect to my support of Diana.

We have had a strong and communicative background in working together on various issues over my long-time service on the Edmonds Planning Board. I find her logic and direction in any given issue to be based on sound background knowledge, exploration, and a tendency towards reaching consensus in recommended solution. Many times, her thoughts and input led to similar consensus among our Planning Board members towards support by Council.

More recently I had the (many weeks!) experience of working under Diana’s auspices on the Edmonds School District Bond Task Force. Under her board chair leadership and influence we were led by a dedicated professional board and staff support in developing the backbone of the new school bond issue most recently published within our local media. As she stated openly during the recent candidates forum (10/7/19), which I attended, we certainly participated in a process demonstrating “…what a highly-functioning team can look like.” One cannot help but recognize that her work ethic and demeanor will both contribute to a functional and effective city council to set policy, determine budgets/expenditures, and openly support our highly professional city staff.

Please join me in voting for Diana White for council this November.
