With points scored by both their offense and their defense, the Snohomish Panthers put together a complete performance to defeat the Meadowdale Mavericks 58-14 in a 3A Wesco League South Conference game played Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Snohomish.

The Panthers built up a 30-0 lead before the Mavericks could mount any offensive threat of their own. Meadowdale did get on the scoreboard in the last minute of the first half on a Hunter Moen 53-yard touchdown pass to teammate Smuel Lybeer. But any hope of a comeback was squashed as Snohomish scored 28 points in the third quarter to send the game into a “mercy rule” running clock scenario.

Moen figured into both of Meadowdale’s scoring plays — and two scores by the Panthers. The senior tallied a 20-yard rushing touchdown for the Mavs midway through the third quarter, but was also tackled in his own end zone in the first quarter for a Snohomish safety. And on the last play of the third quarter he threw an interception to the Panthers’ Caden Keithley, who returned it 30 yards for a Panthers TD.

The loss dropped Meadowdale’s Wesco League record to 4-2, 5-3 overall, and to third place in the final standings of the South Conference. The Mavs will next play Arlington Friday, Nov. 1; 7 p.m. at Arlington High School, in a “crossover” game to help determine seeding for the district round of the 3A State Football Playoffs that begin on Nov. 8.
