After trailing by a point at halftime, the Meadowdale Mavericks ran off 22 straight second-half points Friday night to end the Everett Seagulls’ hopes for its first football win of the season.
The Mavericks used the big second half to claim a 29-15 victory over the Seagulls in a 3A Wesco League South Conference game played at Everett’s Memorial Stadium.
Hunter Moen ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third to lead the Mavs to the victory. Moen darted 52 yards for a first-quarter score, ran 9 yards for a third- quarter touchdown and threw a 73-yard bomb while sprinting to his right to teammate Mason Vaughn to light up the scoreboard again in the third.
Kristian Lunsford added a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for Everett.
The victory lifted the Mavs’ league record to 3-1 and kept the team in the middle of a heated battle at the top of the 3A Wesco League South Conference standings — also sitting at 3-1 are Edmonds-Woodway, Snohomish and the Shorecrest Scots. The Mavericks will face the Scots on Friday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium.
