Prep volleyball: E-W earns 3-1 win over Lynnwood

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors volleyball team traveled to meet the Edmonds School District rival Lynnwood Royals Tuesday night for a 3A Wesco Conference match at Lynnwood High School.

The Warriors battled through a shaky start that saw them drop the first set to the host Royals 16-25, before settling down and capturing the next three sets for the match victory.

The victory further solidifies Edmonds-Woodway’s playoff position in the middle of the pack with just four matches remaining before the district playoffs start Nov. 7.  E-W currently holds the 4th seed of the 10 teams that will qualify for the tournament.

With the loss, Lynnwood is left hovering around that 10th spot, hoping to get the late-season wins needed to earn a seed into the district tournament.

Leading the victorious Warriors were Kaddy Kongira, Annalise Eunson and Erika Fosberg with seven kills each. Kaiona Apio had 18 digs, while Maggie McGinness dished out 25 assists.

The Royals were paced by Jayden Angell with 13 kills, Surina Soumpholphakdy with 28 digs, and 33 assists from Acacia Preza.

Edmonds-Woodway is now 7-3 in the 3A Wesco Conference, 8-3 overall. The Warriors’ next match is Wednesday night, Oct. 23 at Shorewood High School, where they will face the 2-8 Thunderbirds.

Lynnwood drops to 4-6 in the 3A Wesco Conference, and 4-6 overall. The Royals’ next match is Wednesday night, Oct. 23 when they will host the Cedarcrest Red Wolves, who are 2-9 on the season.
