Edmonds resident Linda Coburn’s Vintage 50s-plus volleyball team earned the Gold Medal in the Green Division today at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
Teams are categorized in different divisions after pool play and compete for medals within their division. “I wish we could have reached a higher division, but so happy to have battled for the Gold regardless,” Coburn said. “The best part of the tournament is the fact that this was the first Huntsman for four of my players on the 50s team and they left with a medal.”
This was the first year Coburn, who also is the Edmonds Municipal Court judge, was eligible to play in two divisions, women’s 55s-plus and women’s 50s-plus. “My 55s team was one match shy of winning a medal in the blue division,” Coburn said. “We actually registered for Division II, but got reassigned to the higher Division I for the event. So the fact we ended up 10th overall among all 33 Women’s 55 teams, was pretty awesome.”
“This was the first time I played in two divisions, meaning I played eight days of volleyball, instead of four,” Coburn added. “So the highlight for me was being physically able to do that. Playing regularly in the City of Edmonds volleyball league has helped me stay in the game for sure.”
Congratulations Vintage 50’s Plus Volleyball Team! This is impressive and you are all wonderful examples of women who stay in shape and play volleyball long after most have quit. I played Beach Volleyball most of my life and miss the sport tremendously. This was a fun article to read and I am really proud of each one of you. It takes dedication and talent, BTW you all look like a college team, bless you all!
