Edmonds-Woodway High School alumni Yukino Parle and Miler Haller will lead the Boise State women’s and men’s cross country teams as they compete in the NCAA National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
Both Broncos’ squads heard their name called when the 31-team fields for the NCAA National Championships were announced. Indiana State will serve as the host for the event, to be held Nov. 23 on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
The women’s 6k race is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Mountain time, with the men’s 10k race starting at 10:15 a.m.
The women punched their ticket for the fifth time, all in the last six years, as all five scoring runners earned All-West Region honors en route to a third-place finish. Sophomore Yukino Parle earned a seventh-place finish. It is the second consecutive season the Broncos have placed five student-athletes in the top 25 at the West Regional.
The Boise State men will head to nationals for the fifth straight season and sixth all-time. The Broncos placed three on the All-West Region team for the third time in school history. Senior Miler Haller came across the line in fourth-place to lead the Broncos to a fifth-place finish.
In 2018, the Broncos placed sixth on the women’s side while the men were 10th at the National Championships in Madison, Wis.
Congratulations to Yukino and Miler -and best wishes for the Championships! After a life spent in endurance sport – cross-country skiing – it warms my heart to see these two Edmonds neighbors do so well in a highly individual sport that requires incredible self-discipline and many hours of hard training. Go for it!
