Edmonds Sister City Commission recruiting chaperones for 2020 student exchange

A Sister City delegate plays a traditional Koto instrument during the 2015 student exchange program to Hekinan.

Every summer, students from the Edmonds area visit the Sister City of Hekinan, Japan for a two-week stay. Edmonds Sister City Commission is accepting applications for educators interested in co-leading this trip during the last two weeks of July 2020.

Chaperones stay with a host family in Hekinan and travel costs are paid by the commission. This program has organized exchanges between the two Sister Cities for over 500 middle- and high school-aged students.

This opportunity to travel to Japan and experience the Japanese culture is open to local teachers and administrators. If interested, visit the “Exchange programs” page on the Sister City website at www.edmondswa.gov/sister-city-commission.html to view information about Hekinan, background on the program, and a sample itinerary.

Applications are available on the website or through Carolyn LaFave at 425-771-0247 or carolyn.lafave@edmondswa.gov; or at Edmonds City Hall, 121 5th Ave. N., Edmonds (Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).

Deadline for applications is Friday, Jan. 7, 2020.
