As the Kincade fire in California rages on, a Snohomish County strike team — including three South County Fire firefighters — traveled to Sonoma County to assist local fire agencies.
Early Monday morning, Acting Capt. Brent Allen, firefighter/paramedic Phil Pons and firefighter/paramedic Shawn Evenhus along with crews from Snohomish County Fire District 22 (Getchell) and Arlington Fire Department traveled south with four brush engines. The team left Snohomish County around 5 a.m. on Oct. 28 for Redding, California, where they stayed overnight before continuing to the Kincade fire. Fire crews have been battling that blaze on a Sonoma County mountainside since it started Oct. 23.
According to South County Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes, the team deployed for 14 working days plus two days travel each way and could be gone up to 18 days, but it could be shorter or longer as firefighting needs change.
