City council Dec. 10 set to deliberate and adopt 2020 budget, OK utility rate increase

In what may be its final meeting of 2019, the Edmonds City Council Dec. 10 is scheduled to deliberate and adopt the 2020 city budget.

The council is also set to approve an increase in utility rates for the next three years.

The 7 p.m. business meeting will be preceded by a 6 p.m. meeting of council committees. All meetings will be in the Public Safety Complex, 250 5th Ave. N.

Other items on the business meeting agenda include:

– A resolution updating development fees

– A resolution to approve certain revisions to the shared leave and sick leave provisions of the City of Edmonds Personnel Policies, and add Washington State Paid Family and Medical Leave provisions.

– The council is also set to recognize Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling and Councilmembers Dave Teitzel, Tom Mesaros and Neil Tibbott, who will be ending their terms of office this year.

The agenda for the 6 p.m. committee meetings include:

Parks and Public Works Committee (Council Chamber)
Easements for the Citywide Pedestrian Crossing Enhancements Project
A supplemental agreement with SJC Alliance for the Highway 99 Revitalization Project
A supplemental agreement with David Evans and Associates for the 76th Avenue West and 212th Street Southwest Intersection Improvements Project

Finance Committee (Jury Meeting Room)
– Code Amendment of ECC 3.75 related to Downtown Edmonds Business Improvement District delinquent assessment fees
– September 2019 Quarterly Financial Report
– Complete September 2019 Quarterly Financial Report
– October 2019 Monthly Financial Report
– Creation of new special revenue fund
– Write-off of capital assets

  1. Before approving a rate increase, do not forget the lower income and senior citizens in the area. This increase adds to all the current taxes we pay for just living in the area and it can be overwhelming to those strict budgets. Unless there are op-out options, which there unusually are not. Are there other alternatives for the money?
