Edmonds’ newly-elected mayor and city councilmembers, plus one re-elected incumbent, will take their oaths of office in a special 6:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday, Jan. 7 prior to the regularly scheduled council meeting.
Mike Nelson will be sworn in as mayor, while Diane Buckshnis, Laura Johnson, Vivian Olson and Susan Paine will be sworn in for city council. Of the four councilmembers, only Buckshnis is an incumbent.
After the swearing-in ceremonies, the council will get down to business during the first meeting of the new year, starting at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be in the council chambers.
First on the agenda is the selection of a council president and president pro tem for 2020. There will also be discussion later in the meeting to decide how the council wants to proceed in filling the Position 2 council seat left vacant when Nelson was elected mayor. Twelve residents have applied for the opening, and it’s the council’s job to pick someone to fill out the two remaining years of Nelson’s term.
The council is also scheduled to hear an update on the construction process and timing for the Civic Park Field project,
