Photographer Bill Ray found these Great Blue Herons at the Edmonds Marsh Friday and Saturday. Ray said there were more than a dozen of them — “quite a sight.”

Beautiful
I observed what appeared to be a flock of herons flying over and around the Marsh on Friday morning. Don’t recall ever seeing so many in one small area. Is something going on? Do they sense the days are getting longer and it’s time to start thinking courtship?
WOW!!! Thanks!
When I was there on Friday afternoon, I counted 21.

I have seen as many as 18 herons at the marsh in years past. There used to be a heron rookery at the southeast end of the marsh, but the resident Pt. Edwards pair of bald eagles pretty much chased them off. There has been recent evidence that the herons may be trying to establish a new rookery at the old location.
