Prep girls basketball: Warriors lose to Ferndale in first round of district tourney

The Edmonds-Woodway Lady Warriors opened the District 1 3A Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday after a long drive to Whatcom County, where they found the No. 3 seed Ferndale Golden Eagles too tough to overcome.

E-W, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, was defeated 66-53 by Ferndale and will now move into the consolation portion of the district tourney. The Warriors will have to win three straight loser-out contests in order to survive the tournament and earn a berth to a state regional game later this month.

Emdonds-Woodway will next play the No. 10 seed Marysville-Getchell Chargers on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in a district tournament loser-out game Tipoff at Edmonds-Woodway High School is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Ferndale 66 – Edmonds-Woodway 53   

Records: Edmonds-Woodway 11-10 overall; Ferndale 16-5 overall

Edmonds-Woodway next game: versus Marysville-Getchell; Tuesday, Feb. 18; 7 p.m. at Edmonds-Woodway High School (District 1 3A Girls Basketball Tournament loser-out game)
