Scene in Edmonds: After the wind and waves

Photographer Julia Wiese documented the debris aftermath on Edmonds’ Olympic Beach Saturday morning following Friday’s wave action.

  1. Storms such as this were the reason why in its youth, this part of Edmonds was protected by dikes. They were often breached and had to be repaired. According to old newspaper articles, it was an ongoing problem. Of course, then, outside of the sawmills and the railroad tracks, most of the waterfront was marshland. Some of the dikes were still visible in the 1930s, when I was an Edmonds kid.
