My Edmonds News Daily Legislative Report: Feb. 9, 2021 – Resentencing, coercive control

My Edmonds News presents the Daily Legislative Report, covering the 2021 Washington State Legislature. The House Public Safety Committee heard testimony on House Bill 1344, which would give possibly early release to those incarcerated for long sentences if they committed the crime prior to age 25. The House Public Safety Committee also heard testimony on House Bill 1449, which would create the crime of coercive control. The Housing, Human Services & Veterans committee heard public testimony on House Bill 1421, which would remove a property owner or tenant’s liability for delinquent or unpaid utility bills. The Housing, Human Services & Veterans committee also heard testimony on House Bill 1441 prohibiting discrimination against prospective tenants for unpaid rent or eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. Depends on what the crime the person now incarcerated was convicted and sentenced for doing. No for sexual assaults. No for armed robbery. No for murder, manslaughter. No for 2nd degree murder. No for child abuse and or pedophiles. Other wise ok for drug possession, ok for drug sales. Ok for bad checks, ok for tax evasion, OK for non payment of child support. All of these folks you want to let out should have records expunged…with a record can’t get a job or have a good life. Can’t get into colleges. Etc.
    Some will return to crime…But maybe if we give them a starter which must mean a clean record they will be happy, grateful and excited. This is what I would like to see.
    Can’t be a pardon..must be totally expunged. So they can legally fill out a job application and be able to say NO in the section listing convictions.
