The changing face of Alderwood Mall: Gone is the Sears store; in its place will be this 328-unit apartment complex.
Avalon Apartments will have two buildings, each six stories high. The ground floor will be reserved for retail.
Completion is scheduled for 2022.

Let’s keep on building housing to see how many more people we can add to our population. You know there are states much more affordable to live in. Even low income housing in our area is not that affordable. I would like to see that there is a movement to build some low income housing in Woodway. Lovely homes, but there was never land set aside for low income workers. People that work in those homes must commute. Interesting how we always hear about building low income housing in Edmonds. It is time to make room in Woodway for affordable housing, grocery stores, used car lot, and a nice Goodwill store.
Sadly, these slapdash strata blocks aren’t built to last, are short on safety features and the ground- floor “retail” is difficult to impossible to keep rented.
Worst of all, no HVAC! Can you see yourself living in one of those units through a heat wave?
