Scene in Edmonds: Keeping the beat

  1. Thanks to Steel Magic for a delightful performance. And the best part? The interaction during the last song where the audience was invited to come (masked) and look over the shoulder of a band member to see their music, see how the drum is labeled, and experience the magic, up close and personal. Thank you!

    1. Thanks for your comment. Inviting the audience “into” the band for the last song is a grand old steelband tradition. But really, the players enjoy that energy and attention at any time during the program. Steelband is a genre of “The People.” We do not need a stage; we prefer to be on the same ground with the people for that more personal exchange of energy!

  2. It was our pleasure to perform. We were initially scheduled to perform for the grand opening of the new Waterfront Center late this month, but that event has been shifted to virtual-only, so we just wanted to get out and play for the community one last time before the end of the summer. We’d love to make this an annual event.

Our program opened the summer on June 19th, with a full-program (more than 80 players in four different bands, the largest of them 33 players) on 5th Avenue in downtown Edmonds. It was nice to have a “bookend” performance to close the summer season.

Keep track of our performances on the events page of our website, http://www.steelmagicnorthwest.org!
