Updated with cause of outage.
A power outage impacting 1,455 customers was reported in several Edmonds neighborhoods as well as in Woodway and unincorporated Esperance Thursday night. As of 10 p.m., power was restored to all but about 350 customers, and the rest were expected to be restored overnight.
Snohomish County PUD spokesperson Aaron Swaney said the cause of the outage was equipment failure.
Our power went out for a few seconds twice last night. Shortly before it did that, I heard a loud bang – at first I thought it was fireworks but maybe it was a transformer blowing?
We had the same short power interruptions but did not hear the failure.
Unfortunately, the associated grid switching came with a surge, that took out a device related to our Internet service. I’ll get that sorted today or tomorrow.
I’ll make sure all of the powered devices are behind an Uninterruptible Power Source with surge protection to reduce the chances of this happening again.
I have 3 of these UPS units now. Inexpensive insurance for about $100 each.
