The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce is seeking the public’s feedback on the 2022 Edmonds 4th of July fireworks show.
Civic Field, where the Edmonds fireworks have traditionally been held, is under construction and unavailable for the next couple of years. The chamber is considering other options and is interested in community feedback.
You can fill out the short, four-question survey here.
How about get a barge and put it out on the water
No fireworks please
You must not be from here.
Like they used to off the beach
Could the money be used for street repair instead?
Hi Carl, just so you know, the funds that pay for the fireworks belong to the Chamber of Commerce. The City of Edmonds does not pay for these fireworks.
Save the money.
A barge on the sound is a great idea, if the can manage the trash. The echo makes less noise for our four legged neighbors and everyone can see it without crowds and spreading Covid.
Find another location – barge, beach, other.
This is a big part of our history and traditions.
Frankly, a contained and well-managed fireworks display, whether afloat or on the beach, concerns me far less than the inconsiderate idiots who start letting off fireworks even two days before and after the 4th, and the folks who go on banging sporadically till well past midnight on the day.
A barge will just cost money and be subject to possible windy water conditions. Why not use the fishing pier and shoot them off slightly toward the West to avoid any fire hazard to the boat harbor? Fire boat and trucks could be on sight just in case. The Coast Guard Auxiliary could even take part; putting off expired boat emergency flares as part of the show. Boaters need a safe and non polluting way to destroy these flares anyway. Maybe give some purpose to the whole thing as well as fun?
Before you jump on board with fireworks over the water, please stop to consider the ecological damage that would result from all that trash falling down into the water. We know we need to protect marine life from pollution and we try to reduce harmful stormwater runoff, so why would we dump explosive residue directly into the sound?
Since you bring it up, Margie, why would we dump explosive residue and trash on our city park and our own homes? The answer is that Edmonds has become Carnival City and everyone loves a carnival. They can cancel it tomorrow and my feelings won’t be hurt any.
The effects of one night of fireworks are going to be far less detrimental than the effects of years of consistent pollution flowing from our roads to our stormwater drains
Marjie,
I share your concern about the ecological damage that could result if fireworks are displayed over the waterfront. The Chamber questionnaire includes a question about laser fireworks, which are more expensive. Here is a link to one company that offers them: https://fullcolorlasers.com/4th-july-laser-light-shows/
I would somehow like to have the fire works at the beach it is so beautiful there especially summer evenings. I watch Edmonds fireworks from the pier. It is too crowed at the current location. If we move to the beach or barge I want it to be assured it will be environmentally safe.
I vote on the beach or pier. I have been going for over 60 years I so missed it last year !!! It’s an Edmonds tradition my children and now my granddaughters are going so please keep it going .
I really believe the community needs to come together at a time like this, and even though there were glitches last year, the whole day the Chamber organized was like a breath of fresh air. I’d vote for whatever location will allow the most people access for the fireworks.
Silent fireworks are THE ONLY SOLUTION!!! They can do it in other countries, so why can’t the mighty United State of America? The City of Edmonds can’t even fix their hazardous sidewalks, can’t make our entry sign look good by putting a “Thank you for visiting” sign on the back of it. It currently looks terrible as you drive out of Edmonds! There are so many people and pets with PTSD from serving the needs of others. Our Veterans are the only reason you have any rights!! The least you can do is be considerate and care about your neighbors, the Veterans that risked their lives for you and the pets that will die for your few minutes of insanity blowing off Fireworks that are, by the way, illegal, not only in the City of Edmonds, but anywhere near here! Find a better way to celebrate the victories of others (P.S. You did not win the game!) and grow up If this offends anyone, don’t read it and move on. I won’t be reading your response, so you will be wasting your time trying to get a reaction. I finally just got fed up and had to share my frustration with the lack of compassion in our community for pets and people with PTSD and fear of loud noises.
Wendy,
I agree with you that silent fireworks should be the only option considered, for all of the reasons you have stated. I hope that the Chamber takes seriously the stress that explosive fireworks can cause to veterans suffering with PTSD. Stress to our four legged friends is also of concern.
This could be the time to change how Edmonds celebrates 4th of July. Instead of celebrating “and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air” (from our National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner) why not celebrate our gratitude for living in the USA.
Yes!! Thank you. We can change the way we do things!!! We can start being considerate of each other. I grew up in downtown Edmonds on the Waterfront, one house off of Sunset. Edmonds used to do the Fireworks on the waterfront at Bracket’s Landing many years ago. Our house was right above that beach and my parents used to invite everyone over and have big parties. We had a lot of fun, back in the day. It was all good when we were a tiny town and respected each other. I’m sure our animals ran amuck and were terrified, so I’m sad about that! I remember experiencing a Veteran with PTSD that was terrified and diving under a table at the sound of dynamite. A mutual friend told me he eventually committed suicide. This was when I was a child and didn’t know any better. They had to change the venue for the fireworks display when people started to come from all over the area and try to park on our private front lawns & property, park huge RV’s in the middle of the street and block everyone from viewing the fireworks or being able to drive on the streets. They were setting off fireworks everywhere, with no regard for people, pets, private property or the environment. The City of Edmonds finally decided that the beach was too dangerous of a venue for fireworks due to the lack of respect of the people attending. I remember those years well! People were throwing fireworks at each other and they wouldn’t move to let the aid trucks in to administer first aid! Totally a dangerous and disastrous situation. Absolutely out of control! That was back in the 60-70’s. I can’t even imagine the chaos that would occur now with our current attitudes and COVID19 situation! Let’s learn from the past and make life better for each other.
Thank you Wendy, I agree wholeheartedly. I don’t understand peoples’ need to simulate war. There is little care for those of us who have PTSD, and the pets and wildlife who are traumatized with each and every boom, not to mention what it does to the water, soil and air. I have come to absolutely hate New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July. I don’t get how anyone can think it’s a good idea to hurt others, animals and the environment.
Annon,
Thank you for “I don’t understand peoples’ need to simulate war.” I’ve been pondering that as well.
